... Belong to a very small restaurant down rue Mouffetard where the line stretches down into the street each night. Thomas and I were looking for a quick meal today after an epic day of walking and followed the crowd to this place.
Oh. My. God.
So we saw people walking away with these gyro looking crepes filled with meat, tomatoes, lettuce and cheese and decided to order one each and share a banana Nutella crepe for dessert. Holy cow. First, the man laid down the crepe with a very generous pat of butter beneath it. I'm talking generous. Then he laid down, I shit you not, easily half a pound of shredded cheese on each crepe. Thomas and I looked at each other eyes wide and watched the man work his magic. He threw on tons of toppings and some of the ripest looking tomatoes I've seen in Paris then wrapped up the crepes and handed them to us.
This is when things got serious. He laid down the crepe for our banana Nutella crepe, again with a huge gob of butter, then dolloped out an easy 1/3 cup of Nutella. It just sort of poured across the surface and then he ninja chopped a whole banana with frightening precision, slung the melted mess into a piece of foil and sent us on our way. I wish I could say we had pictures, but we were so hungry neither of the crepes were in photographic condition but the time we made it up the street to our apartment. (Sorry, but I'm really not sorry.)
By the way, having an apartment for our stay has got on be the best decision we've made. It's been so was nice having our own private place and being able to come and go as we please as well as keep food in our own kitchen and do laundry*.
(Side note: French laundry machines take a really, really long time to do a load. I'm talking 6-7 hours to wash and dry a single load. The machines are also combo machines that wash and dry the load in the same cycle. And they don't really dry dry things. You still have to hang dry them after. Oh and they're wicked loud so we can only run them when all our neigh it's are away at work.)
Ah well, the adventures of travel, oui?
Cheers,
Cathy
Yuuuumm.. I'm going to have to make some crepes now. I love vacation rentals, we do it everytime we have to bring dogs with us so its less stressful. I love looking through the bookshelves and knick knacks people use to fill the spaces. It sure sounds awesome out there. :)
ReplyDeleteWash and dry? Hmmmm....I am appreciating my washer and dryer right about now.
